Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned party delegates to be vigilant against what he describes as a coordinated campaign of insults and misinformation targeted at him as the party’s presidential primary draws near.

Speaking to delegates at Manso Adubia in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, January 20, Dr Bawumia said his campaign team had received intelligence suggesting that some rival aspirants were preparing to resort to personal attacks and false allegations in the final stages of the contest.

With less than two weeks to the primary, Dr Bawumia argued that the shift from policy discussions to insults and untruths reflects a lack of substance in the campaigns of his opponents. He urged delegates not to be influenced by such tactics and to remain focused on the future of the party and its chances in the upcoming general election.

“This is not an insulting competition,” he told the gathering, noting that persistent personal attacks are often a sign of a struggling campaign. He added that the attacks were directed at him because his rivals were unable to challenge his ideas and track record.

Dr Bawumia maintained that he remained unfazed by the alleged strategy and would continue to run a positive, issue-based campaign.

“A few days ago, we received intelligence that with two weeks left to the primary, they are planning a strategy to insult me and spread lies about me,” he said, urging delegates to be alert and discerning.

He expressed confidence in the judgment of party delegates and reaffirmed his commitment to unity and victory for the NPP, encouraging supporters to remain focused and not be distracted as voting day approaches.
