The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced a one-month suspension of remittance services by five Money Transfer Operators (MTOs), citing violations of regulatory guidelines.

Effective September 18, 2025, the affected operators — Taptap Send, Top Connect, Remit Choice, Send App, and Afriex — will be barred from offering remittance services, according to a statement released by the central bank on Thursday, September 4.

The BoG explained that the suspension follows breaches of the Guidelines for Inward Remittance Services by Payment Service Providers (2023), as amended under Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2025/25.

The infractions involved engaging in unauthorised remittance transactions with three Payment Service Providers — Halges Financial Technologies Limited, Cellulant Limited, and Flutterwave Inc. — using UBA Ghana as their settlement bank.

The central bank stressed that the suspended MTOs will only be permitted to resume operations after their partner PSPs or banks reapply for approval and are granted clearance following the end of the suspension period.

Additionally, the BoG issued a strong reminder to all stakeholders in the foreign exchange market to adhere strictly to existing regulations and guidelines governing forex operations.

The move underscores the Bank’s ongoing efforts to maintain oversight, integrity, and compliance within Ghana’s financial ecosystem.
