Mondo Duplantis has done it again. The Swedish pole vault star soared to a new world record of 6.29 meters at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial in Budapest, raising his own mark by one centimeter.

The 25-year-old Olympic and world champion achieved the feat on his second attempt, surpassing the record he set in June at a Diamond League meet in Stockholm. This jump marks his 13th career world record and his third of the year, further cementing his dominance in the sport.

Budapest holds a special place for Duplantis. Just last year, he retained his world title in the city by clearing 6.10 meters at the 2023 World Championships. The atmosphere clearly inspired him again, as he thanked the crowd and promised to return. “I love the crowd, I want to come back,” he said.

At the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, Duplantis cleared 6.11 meters on his second try before setting his sights on the record. He then delivered another stunning leap, clearing 6.29 meters with ease.

The achievement reinforces Duplantis’ status as one of the most remarkable athletes in track and field history. Each new record feels like a step further into uncharted territory, with no sign of him slowing down.
