The Ghana Police Service has revealed disturbing findings from a forensic investigation into the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate in Accra, on July 9, 2025.

Amoah, who was attached to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) headquarters, had been missing since July 4, triggering an intensive search operation by law enforcement and his family.

At a press conference on Monday morning, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), provided a chilling account of the evidence gathered so far and confirmed that the main suspect, Bright Aweh, who was initially charged with kidnapping, has now been formally charged with murder.

Forensic Evidence Unveiled

Investigators unearthed significant forensic evidence linking the suspect to the crime. At the suspect’s residence, police discovered:

  1. Blood stains in the living room and signs of a cleanup attempt
  2. Freshly painted walls and an empty spray paint can
  3. At a second crime scene near the GBC satellite area
  4. A burnt wooden carpet stained with blood
  5. artially burnt camouflage fabric

“These items were meticulously photographed, retrieved, and processed for forensic analysis,” COP Donkor stated.

Following a court-approved search on July 24, police returned to the residence and uncovered more blood stains in a secured room.

Key Breakthrough in Nearby Bushes

A pivotal discovery came in the form of a blood-stained fufu pestle, found wrapped in polythene and hidden in bushes about 100 metres from the suspect’s house. Police believe this could have been the murder weapon.

Additionally, the suspect’s vehicle was impounded after blood traces were detected inside. All samples are undergoing forensic examination.

“Initial blood tests confirm the presence of human blood,” COP Donkor revealed, adding that DNA samples have been collected from the victim’s mother and son to establish a genetic match.

Legal Proceedings and Next Steps

Bright Aweh is currently on remand following an appearance before the Adabraka District Court. He is scheduled to reappear on August 8, 2025.

In a significant update, COP Donkor confirmed that a special operation is underway to locate and arrest accomplices linked to the murder.

“We are following other vital leads to gather all necessary evidence against the suspect and his accomplices,” she assured the public.

Public Response

The brutal nature of the crime has shocked many across Ghana, particularly within the security services community. Authorities are calling on the public to volunteer any information that could support the ongoing investigation.

The Ghana Police Service has vowed to pursue justice relentlessly, promising transparency and regular updates as the case progresses.
