Ademola Lookman has formally requested to leave Atalanta, revealing deep frustration with the club’s handling of his future in a powerful statement shared on Instagram.

The 27-year-old forward claimed he was forced to go public after enduring what he described as “many months of broken promises.” In his post, Lookman said he felt mistreated “as both a human being and as a professional footballer.”

The Nigerian international insisted the time was right for a new challenge. He stated that he and the club had reached an agreement for him to leave if a fair offer came in. “Sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right,” Lookman added.

Lookman said a transfer offer matching previous discussions was submitted. However, Atalanta have reportedly gone back on their word. “Despite now receiving an offer, the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand,” he said.

Lookman did not reveal the identity of the interested club. Nor did he give financial details about the bid. His post, however, carried the tone of a player deeply disillusioned.

The former Leicester and RB Leipzig attacker joined Atalanta in 2022. Since then, he has grown into one of their key attacking players. His goals and flair helped the club qualify for European football.

Atalanta have yet to officially comment on the matter. The silence adds to the uncertainty surrounding the player’s future. Fans have responded with a mix of concern and support for Lookman’s stance.

This dispute could now impact Atalanta’s preparations ahead of the new season. If unresolved, it risks overshadowing the club’s ambitions both domestically and in Europe.
