President John Dramani Mahama has announced the immediate cancellation of fuel allowances and fuel allocations for all political appointees, as part of sweeping efforts to curb government spending and enforce greater fiscal discipline.
The announcement was made in a statement issued Tuesday by Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The directive forms a key component of the Mahama administration’s broader cost-cutting framework, known as the Reset Agenda, which aims to redirect public funds toward essential national development priorities.
According to the statement, the decision reflects President Mahama’s belief that leadership must share in the sacrifices being asked of the broader population.
“The President believes that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make,” the statement emphasized.
This latest move follows a series of earlier austerity measures introduced by the government. These include a reduction in the size of government, fewer ministerial appointments, and the suspension of satellite television subscriptions for offices at the Presidency and other state institutions.
