The Football Association (FA) has confirmed Thomas Tuchel as the new head coach of the England national team. The German tactician, who signed a contract on October 8, will begin his tenure on January 1.

In his first press conference, Tuchel expressed his pride and passion for the role. “I am sorry that I have a German passport,” he joked. “I loved living here, and I’m excited to show the fans my respect for this job and country.”

Tuchel boasts an impressive managerial resume, having led Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2021 and managed Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham revealed that Tuchel was one of 10 candidates considered to replace Gareth Southgate. “We ran a clear process and spoke with approximately 10 people. We’re happy with Thomas, and he gives us the best chance of winning the next World Cup.”

Tuchel will be assisted by English coach Anthony Barry, who worked with him at Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Barry praised Tuchel’s analytical skills and drilling on the training pitch.

“I didn’t hesitate when Thomas asked me to join him,” Barry said. “This squad is talented, and I look forward to working with them on this exciting project.”
