Inaugural George Ayittey Memorial Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in Ghana

The Africa Centre for Entrepreneurship and Youth Empowerment (ACEYE) hosted the first-ever George Ayittey Memorial Awards in Accra, a distinguished event that acknowledged the remarkable contributions of several Ghanaians to the development of a prosperous Africa.

ACEYE, an entrepreneurial and policy think tank committed to fostering entrepreneurship and free markets, organized the ceremony under the theme “Inspiring Minds, Transforming Nations: the Ayittey Legacy,” with the aim of instilling the visionary ideals of the late George Ayittey in the youth of Africa.

Guest speaker Dr. Joseph Darmoe delivered an inspiring address, praising the relentless efforts and determination of George Ayittey towards realizing a free and liberal Africa. Dr. Darmoe expressed optimism for the continent’s future and urged the youth to leverage technology in their pursuit of greater achievements.

Renowned journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni was honored for his Outstanding Efforts in Combating Corruption, while Lawyer Martin Kpebu received recognition for his Distinguished Legal Achievements.

Other notable winners included Sulley Amin Abubakar for Entrepreneurial Innovation and Impact, Farida Bedwei for Exemplary Governance and Leadership, Seth Kwame Boateng for Excellence in Media and Journalism, and Senyegbe Agbemabiese for Promising Entrepreneurship.

In addition to accolades, ACEYE seized the opportunity to award cash prizes to the winners of the George Ayittey Memorial Awards Essay Competition.

Mr. Richmond Kwesi Ansah, a member of ACEYE, emphasized the significance of the award scheme for African youth, highlighting its potential to inspire and motivate.

Expressing his gratitude, Lawyer Martin Kpebu humbly accepted the award, noting that the recognition would serve as a catalyst for renewed energy and dedication to his endeavors.

The George Ayitteh Memorial Awards marked a pivotal moment in celebrating the legacy of a distinguished Ghanaian economist, author, and president of the Free Africa Foundation, George Ayittey. The event showcased the outstanding achievements of individuals dedicated to driving positive change and innovation across various sectors in Africa.
