Tottenham Hotspur have bolstered their attacking ranks with the signing of Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich, with an option to buy for €55 million (£45.7m). The 19-year-old forward, initially very hesitant to leave the Bundesliga champions, now embarks on a new chapter in North London, where he will wear the No.11 shirt.
Tel had attracted interest from Manchester United and long-time admirers Chelsea, but it’s Spurs who have secured his signature on deadline day. He becomes Ange Postecoglou’s third signing of the window, following the additions of Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and Austrian centre-back Kevin Danso.
A highly rated prospect, Tel made history at Bayern, becoming the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer in 2022 breaking a record previously held by Jamal Musiala. He departs the Allianz Arena with 16 goals and seven assists in 83 appearances.
For Spurs, his arrival couldn’t come at a better time. Postecoglou’s attacking options have been stretched thin, with Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson, and Wilson Odobert all sidelined, while Dominic Solanke remains out until March with a knee injury.
With Richarlison and teenager Mikey Moore recently returning from injury, Tel joins a refreshed frontline very eager to make an impact in Spurs’ pursuit of Champions League football.
