Former Arsenal and Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing in court to face serious criminal charges. The 32-year-old has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three women. The alleged offences occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Partey appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. In court, he confirmed his name and acknowledged the bail conditions. These conditions prevent him from contacting the alleged victims and require him to inform police of any permanent address changes or international travel.

His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, had earlier stated that Partey denies all allegations. She emphasized that he looks forward to clearing his name through the legal process. Partey’s next court appearance is scheduled for 2 September at the Old Bailey.

The charges follow a police investigation that began in February 2022. Authorities launched inquiries after receiving a rape report involving the Ghanaian midfielder. The legal proceedings have continued since then, culminating in formal charges four days after his Arsenal contract expired on June 30.

Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 for £45 million. He played 167 matches for the Gunners, scoring nine goals. Last season, he featured 52 times and netted four goals. Despite the legal case, there are no restrictions preventing him from continuing his football career.

Recently, reports have linked Partey with a move to Spanish club Villarreal. He is expected to be unveiled in the coming days. Arsenal, however, has refrained from commenting on the matter, citing the ongoing legal process.

Partey also has a significant international career, earning 51 caps for Ghana. His situation has drawn attention both in England and Ghana, given his stature in football.
