Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic is gearing up for the Australian Open in January, and he’s starting his preparations with a bang. The 37-year-old Serb has announced that he’ll be playing at the Brisbane International, which takes place from December 29 to January 5.
Djokovic, who’s currently ranked seventh in the world, is no stranger to success in Australia. He’s a 10-time winner in Melbourne and is tied with Australian Margaret Court on a record 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
The Brisbane International will be one of the final warm-up events before the Australian Open begins on January 12. Djokovic is excited to get back on the court and compete in front of the Australian fans.
“I’m excited to be kicking off my Australian swing at the Brisbane International and to compete again at Pat Rafter Arena,” said Djokovic. “I am looking forward to experiencing the incredible support from the Australian fans and making this tournament one to remember.”
Meanwhile, Britain’s Emma Raducanu will begin her season at the Auckland Classic, which takes place from December 30 to January 5. Raducanu will be joined by four-time major winner Naomi Osaka and home hope Lulu Sun.
Djokovic is aiming to join an elite group of players who have won 100 career titles. He currently has 99 ATP titles to his name and is looking to add to his tally in the coming months.
The field in Brisbane features a number of top players, including Nick Kyrgios, defending champion Grigor Dimitrov, and Holger Rune. Djokovic will be looking to get off to a strong start in Brisbane as he prepares for his bid to win a 25th Grand Slam title in Melbourne.
