Ghana was eliminated from the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup on Sunday, September 8, 2024, despite a 3-1 victory over New Zealand in their final Group E match.

Salamatu Abdulai scored twice to secure the win for the Black Princesses in a game that had no impact on the standings.

Her first goal came just before the hour mark, giving Ghana the lead with a close-range shot. New Zealand equalized through Emma Pijnenburg five minutes later.

Ghana regained their advantage in the 72nd minute with Abdulai’s header from a cross by captain Stella Nyamekye.

Substitute Tracey Twum then added a third goal less than a minute after coming on.

Despite the win, Ghana finished third in the group, which was insufficient to progress to the knockout stages.
