Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been provisionally suspended from football after testing positive for a banned substance in an FA test. The Ukrainian’s ‘A’ urine sample, taken in October, revealed the presence of a prohibited substance, although the specific substance remains undisclosed.
Mudryk expressed shock and innocence, stating: “I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules… I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon.” He is cooperating with investigators to determine the cause.
Chelsea confirmed the failed test, emphasizing their support for the FA’s testing program. “Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances… Both Mykhailo and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding.”
In extreme cases, the Anti-Doping Prosecutor’s Office can impose bans of up to four years. Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba recently received a four-year ban, later reduced on appeal.
Mudryk joined Chelsea in January 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88 million but has struggled to justify his price tag, scoring only five top-flight goals in 53 matches.
