Ghana’s U-15 boys team, the Black Cormets, began their CAF African Schools Championship campaign with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Uganda, marking a strong statement of intent in their tournament debut.
The lively atmosphere at the University of Ghana Stadium set the stage for a thrilling contest, and it took just three minutes for the home fans to erupt. John Andoh, wearing the number 9 shirt, latched onto a through-ball and slotted home with calm precision, giving Ghana the early lead and sending a clear message to their East African opponents.
Uganda struggled to find rhythm under Ghana’s relentless pressure. Midfielder Gideon John nearly extended the lead midway through the half with a dazzling solo effort, weaving through defenders before unleashing a strike that ricocheted off the post.
Ghana’s attacking momentum paid off again in the 30th minute, when Andoh found the net for the second time. This time, it was a poacher’s finish from inside the box following a scramble, completing his brace and effectively sealing the game before halftime.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Andoh couldn’t hide his excitement.
“It’s an amazing feeling to score twice for my country,” he said. “The whole team worked hard, and we followed the coach’s plan. This is just the beginning—we’re here to win.”
Coach Kwame Mensah praised his side’s discipline and composure, highlighting the importance of starting strong in a competitive field.
