Euro 2024: Poland vs Austria-Match Preview

Poland and Austria will clash in their second matches of UEFA EURO 2024 in Group D on Friday 21 June.

Poland will be counting on their star forward Robert Lewandowski, their captain and all-time leading scorer, who missed the 2-1 loss to the Netherlands due to injury.

Austria suffered a 1-0 defeat to France due to an own goal, but Ralf Rangnick’s team can be proud that they kept the goal count low and almost equalized against one of the tournament favorites.

Poland has only scored more than once in one of their 15 previous European Championship matches, which was a 3-2 loss to Sweden at Euro 2020.

However, they have managed to score in each of their last seven tournament games.

The only encounter between Poland and Austria at a major tournament was a 1-1 draw in the group stage of Euro 2008, where it was the only point earned by either team in the tournament.

Austria had the upper hand in the early meetings with Poland but has struggled recently, being winless in their last five encounters (D2 L3) in competitive matches between 2004 and 2019.

Predicted starting lineup for Poland:

Szczęsny, Bednarek, Dawidowicz, Kiwior; Frankowski, Moder, Romanczuk, Zieliński, Zalewski, Urbański,Lewandowski

Predicted starting lineup for Austria:

Pentz,Posch, Danso, Wöber, Mwene; Seiwald, Laimer,Wimmer, Sabitzer, Baumgartner, Gregoritsch
