Aston Villa’s dream of competing in the Champions League has finally come true as they secured a spot in Europe’s premier club competition for the first time.

This achievement was sealed after their top-four rival Tottenham Hotspur suffered a defeat against Manchester City.

Before the match, Tottenham was the only team capable of overtaking Villa for the fourth position, but with this loss, they are now five points behind Unai Emery’s side with just one game left in the season.

This marks Aston Villa’s return to the Champions League after a long hiatus since their last appearance in the European Cup back in the 1982-83 season, where they emerged victorious.

Despite finishing as runners-up and fourth in the Premier League in subsequent years, the criteria for Champions League qualification were different back then, making this achievement even more significant for Villa.

Since Emery took charge, only Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal have accumulated more Premier League points than Villa.

Emery’s vast experience in managing top clubs across Europe, including Valencia, Spartak Moscow, Sevilla, Paris St-Germain and Villarreal further underscores Villa’s readiness to make their mark in the Champions League arena.
