Samartex will be awarded GH¢500,000 (equivalent to over $33,000) for securing their first Ghana Premier League title.
In just their second season, they surpassed expectations and claimed the championship on Sunday in a lively ceremony in Samreboi.
Apart from the trophy and medals, the champions will receive GH¢500,000, a notable increase from the GH¢300,000 given to last season’s champions, Medeama.
Teams in the top 10 will also receive financial rewards. Asante Kotoko, a prominent team finishing sixth, will receive GH¢60,000.
In contrast, former champions Hearts of Oak, narrowly avoiding relegation in 14th place, will not receive any prize money.
Accra Lions, securing the second spot, will be granted GH¢200,000. Berekum Chelsea, finishing third, will obtain GH¢100,000, while fourth-placed Aduana will be awarded GH¢80,000. Other rewards include Nsoatreman (GH¢70,000 for fifth), Nations (GH¢50,000 for seventh), Medeama (GH¢40,000 for eighth), Dreams (GH¢30,000 for ninth), and Bechem United (GH¢20,000 for tenth).
Samartex, reveling in their historic win, plans to utilize the prize money to prepare for the upcoming season and their participation in the CAF Champions League.
Nevertheless, they aim to secure additional investments, particularly from corporate sponsors, to meet the requirements of continental competition.
