The highly anticipated super clash between Asante Kotoko and arch rivals Hearts of Oak is scheduled to take place this weekend.

Football fanatics in the country are certainly geared-up for this tricky fixture. This rivalry often evokes strong emotions with fans showing strong passion whenever their sides meet in a competitive match. However, the build-up to the game has been relatively subdued, primarily due to the fact that both teams have struggled to find their rhythm in the ongoing Betpawa Premier League.

Currently, the Porcupine Warriors occupy the 7th position on the league table, while Hearts of Oak is ranked 8th after 13 matches.

Hearts of Oak, in particular, have faced many challenges in meeting the expectations set for them since the start of the season, experiencing a somewhat turbulent beginning to their campaign. A total of 13 matches have been played and they have only picked up 16 points out of 39, winning 3, drawing 7 and losing 3 matches.

The Phobians head into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat against Aduana FC in Dormaa, leaving them eight points adrift of the top spot. Hearts of Oak will certainly aim to use this fixture to turn their season around by securing all three points on the day.

For Kotoko, they will be taking inspiration from performances from their last two games which have ended in a win for them, securing victories against both Berekum Chelsea and Nations FC. They’ve accumulated a total of 16 points and lie directly on top of Accra Hearts of Oak on the league table.

Kotoko have won 5 games in the campaign so far, drawn 4 times and lost 4 matches.

Going into the game, Hearts of Oak have not lost a game in their last six home games whilst Kotoko have lost 3 matches in their last six games on the road. Out of their previous five encounters held in Kumasi, each team has claimed a victory in one match, and they have drawn three times.

However, considering their last ten fixtures in both home and away games, Hearts of Oak have held the advantage over Kotoko. Hearts have three wins and have shared the spoils with Kotoko in five matches. The match is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, 10th December at 4:00pm local time.
