Ghana Outrun Nigeria to Seal Olympics Ticket In Men’s 4x100m Relay

Ghana’s quartet comprising Ibrahim Fuseini, Isaac Botsio, Benjamin Azamati and Joseph Paul Amoah outpaced Nigeria, Korea, Saudi Arabia, the Dominican Republic and the Netherlands in Heat Two of the second Olympic Qualifying round in the Bahamas.

This performance books a place in the Summer Olympics in Paris, France for Ghana.

Despite a stumble with a baton drop on Day One, the Ghanaian team bounced back with a brilliant performance running a season-best time of 38.29s to secure first place.

Team Ghana jetted off to a strong start with Ibrahim Fuseini smoothly passing on the baton to Isaac Botsio continuing with a swift acceleration in 9.13s before handing over the baton to Benjamin Kwaku Azamati.

Ghana maintained the lead Azamati powered through the third leg in 9.35s before finally reaching out to the final leg, Joseph Paul Amoah just as he exhibited in the African Games also outpowered his opponents in 9.12s securing Ghana’s automatic qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris.

Their rivals, Nigeria secured the other automatic qualification slot in second position with Dominican Republic, Korea, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Netherlands finishing 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.

Africa will have four representatives in the Men’s 4x100m in the Olympics as South Africa and Liberia also secured slots in other heats during the Qualifiers.
