The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Finidi George, former Super Eagles player and part of the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, as the new head coach of the national senior men’s team.
The decision follows George’s successful interim stint after José Santos Peseiro’s departure post the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.
George oversaw a historic victory against Ghana, ending an 18-year winless streak, but faced a loss to Mali in recent friendly matches.
With 62 caps for Nigeria and notable achievements, including assisting Rashidi Yekini in scoring Nigeria’s first FIFA World Cup goal in 1994, George brings experience and passion to the role.
His immediate challenge involves crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic, with the Super Eagles aiming to secure victories and climb up Group C standings.
