Accra, Ghana – June 2025
On Friday, 20th June 2025, Alliance Française d’Accra, in partnership with the French Embassy in Ghana and Institut Français Paris, successfully hosted a powerful celebration of women in sports at DUNK GRASSROOTS – Jamestown Community Centre.
As part of its ongoing initiative to champion women across diverse professional fields, the event highlighted the inspiring stories of women who have overcome immense challenges within their communities to break into the world of sports.
Attendees were treated to “Punching Barriers”, a compelling photo exhibition by Ghanaian photographer George Koranteng Danso. One of the exhibition’s most striking features was the story of Millicent Doddo, a 14-year-old aspiring boxer from Jamestown whose passion for boxing shines amid significant personal and societal challenges.
The event also featured a documentary screening, an engaging panel discussion with leading voices from the sports and development sectors, offering insight into the evolving role of women in sports, sports demonstrations featuring board skating, break dancing, basketball, boxing among others.
The celebration brought together athletes, advocates, artists, and members of the public in a vibrant show of solidarity and recognition. It served as a powerful reminder of the potential of women in sports and the need for continued advocacy, support, and inclusion.
Alliance Française d’Accra extends its gratitude to all participants, partners, and community members who made the event a success.
