The Ghana Police Service has interdicted the three police officers identified in the leaked audio tape alleged to be a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. The three officers, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr. George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Mr. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent Mr. George Lysander Asare were identified by the Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bugri Naabu as accomplices in the alleged plot.
Bugri Naabu confirmed their involvement and the authenticity of the audio tape when he appeared before the special committee set up by the Speaker of Parliament to probe the allegations.
The police in a statement signed by the director for Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, stated that the interdiction of these officers was in ”connection with the audio tape which has become a subject matter of investigation by Parliament”.
The statement concluded that ”the interdiction will make way for disciplinary proceedings into their conduct in line with Police Service regulations”
Meanwhile, Chairman of the special committee Samuel Atta Akyea while addressing the media on Monday, revealed that a new tape had been uncovered by the committee after claims by Supt. George Asare that portions of the first tape had been doctored.
He indicated that the committee will decide whether to hold an on-camera hearing or not, adding that they will be guided by the evidence.
