Ivory Coast will commence their pursuit of a third Africa Cup of Nations championship when they face Guinea-Bissau in the tournament’s inaugural match at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Saturday, January 13, 2024
The hosts are considered favorites to lead Group A, while Guinea-Bissau aims to advance beyond the group stage for the first time.
Having experienced disappointment in the previous three AFCON tournaments and failing to qualify for the last two World Cups, Les Éléphants are looking forward to start on a good note at home.
Guinea-Bissau, on the other hand, has yet to secure a victory in the AFCON, despite making their fourth appearance in the group stages.
Les Éléphants enter the match on a six-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, achieving four victories.
They have netted a total of 16 goals in their last three games, including five in a recent friendly match, and will look to capitalize on their scoring prowess in this encounter.
In contrast, Guinea-Bissau has only managed one win in their previous four matches, suffering a heavy 6-2 defeat to Mali in a friendly fixture.
