A total of nine Black Stars players face an uphill battle as they grapple with injuries ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic next month.

Baba Iddrisu, currently on loan from Mallorca to Almería, recently underwent surgery for a sports hernia, while Inaki Williams from Atletico Bilbao had foot surgery to address a foreign body issue.

Majeed Ashimeru of Anderlecht is recovering from a left calf tear, and Joseph Paintsil from LA Galaxy is dealing with a hamstring injury. Nathaniel Adjei, on loan from Hammarby IF to Lorient, has been sidelined with an ankle injury.

Additionally, Dennis Odoi from Club Brugge is out due to a knee injury, and Daniel Amartey from Beşiktaş is nursing an ankle injury.

Black Stars coach Otto Addo also disclosed that Daniel Kofi Kyere from SC Freiburg and Joseph Aidoo from Celta Vigo are grappling with long-term injuries.

Despite the setbacks, Addo announced a 26-man squad for the upcoming qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Bamako and Kumasi on June 6 and 10, respectively.

The squad will convene on Thursday morning to kick off preparations for the qualifiers, aiming to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted in USA, Mexico, and Canada.
