Rights organizations are urging the Nigerian government to drop charges against dozens of minors detained following recent protests over high living costs.

On Friday, 76 individuals, including 30 children aged 14 to 17, appeared in court facing felony charges such as treason, destruction of property, and mutiny. The minors have reportedly been held since their arrests in August, sparking public outcry over their detention conditions.

Justice Minister and Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi has begun efforts to have charges against the minors dismissed, responding to mounting pressure for their release.
