The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Lariba Abudu, has withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the constituency. This comes after the Electoral Commission (EC) annulled the primary contest between Abudu and Dr. Kabiru Mahama due to a ballot snatching incident.

The incident occurred during the primaries’ re-run, where a man identified as Kamara Bawah grabbed and destroyed several ballot papers before being apprehended by police.

The EC subsequently nullified the election results.

In a press release, Abudu stated that her decision to withdraw is “in the interest of the greater good of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).”

The NPP had scheduled a National Executive Committee meeting for September 11 to address the situation and find a solution to unify the party in the constituency.

The police have detained Kamara Bawah for causing damage to the ballot papers, and security has been reinforced in Walewale and surrounding areas to maintain order.
