The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is organizing a nationwide protest, scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 2024, to demand a forensic audit of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) 2024 provisional voters’ register. Dubbed the “Enough is Enough” demonstration, the NDC says the protest is essential to safeguarding the integrity of the upcoming elections.
The party has outlined four major reasons that highlight irregularities in the provisional voters’ register, which it argues could undermine the credibility of the electoral process.
Here are the four key reasons why the NDC is urging the public to join the protest:
Unexplained Voter Transfers (15,000 Voters)
The NDC has raised alarm over approximately 15,000 voters who have been captured on the EC’s 2024 Transfer List, with no clear indication of where these voters were transferred from. The absence of transfer origins casts doubts on the transparency and accuracy of the electoral roll, raising concerns about potential voter manipulation.
Duplicate Transfers from 2020 (243,000 Voters)
The NDC revealed that 243,000 voters who transferred their votes in 2020 have been added once again to the 2024 Transfer List. According to the party, this duplication has bloated the 2024 provisional voters’ register and Transfer List, making it difficult to determine the actual number of valid transfers for the 2024 elections. The NDC contends that this could distort the voting process at various polling stations.
Missing Transfers in the Absent List (2,094 Voters)
Another troubling issue highlighted by the NDC is that 2,094 voters who transferred their votes in 2024 do not appear on the Absent List for their respective polling stations. This raises questions about the legality and validity of these transfers, suggesting a possible loophole in the electoral process that could disenfranchise voters or skew results.
Exclusion of Voters from 2023 Register (3,957 Voters)
The NDC also noted that 3,957 voters who were listed in the 2023 voters’ register have been inexplicably excluded or deleted from the 2024 provisional voters’ register. This raises serious concerns about voter suppression and errors in the register, further undermining public confidence in the EC’s preparation for the upcoming elections.
