The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will now assume Majority in Parliament as it now occupies 136 seats with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) now left with 135 seats.
This turn of events, comes on the back of a ruling passed by the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbinn yesterday Thursday 17th October.
The MPs affected by this decision are Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kojo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central).
The motion, filed by Haruna Iddrisu, former Minority leader, highlighted that the MPs, who are seeking to contest the upcoming December elections as independent candidates, must forfeit their parliamentary seats as outlined in the constitutional provisions governing parliamentary membership.
Meanwhile, the Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has announced an indefinite boycott of parliamentary proceedings, following Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four seats vacant.
