The government has withdrawn the mining leases of Adamus Resources Limited for its concessions at Akango, Salman, and Nkroful after investigations uncovered widespread regulatory violations and illegal mining activities.
In a statement issued on April 26, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources explained that the decision followed findings by the Minerals Commission, which revealed that the company had breached several provisions of Ghana’s mining laws.

According to the Commission’s report, the company engaged third parties to carry out mining operations on its concessions without securing the required approval from the sector minister, contrary to provisions under the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703).
Further breaches included operating without authorised mining plans and lacking valid permits from the Chief Inspector of Mines, in violation of the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182). The company was also found to have failed to obtain necessary environmental clearances from the Environmental Protection Authority.
Investigators additionally cited the involvement of foreign nationals in illegal mining operations, a development that contravenes provisions of the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 995).
The report noted that some activities took place outside designated concession boundaries, causing environmental damage, including land degradation and risks to nearby water bodies and communities.
Based on these findings, the Minister acted on the Commission’s recommendation under Section 100(2) of Act 703, stating that the revocation was necessary to protect the public interest, particularly in cases where concessions are used to support illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
The Ministry emphasised that the decision does not rule out possible criminal proceedings against the company, its directors, or management.
Authorities also indicated that steps would be taken to address the welfare of workers affected by the revocation, with further details expected in the coming days.
Government reaffirmed its resolve to intensify the fight against illegal mining and ensure strict adherence to regulations within the sector, stressing its commitment to safeguarding the country’s natural resources.
