Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament have paid a courtesy call on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, pledging their support for his bid to lead the party into the 2028 presidential election.

The visit comes as the NPP prepares for its presidential primaries, officially scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Dr. Bawumia is among four key figures who have so far declared their intention to contest for the NPP flagbearer slot. The others are Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

According to members of the delegation, over 60 of the 88 NPP MPs are backing Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy, citing his leadership experience and commitment to the party’s vision.

Prominent MPs and government officials in the delegation include Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Board Chairman of the Youth Employment Agency Sammi Awuku, Local Government Minister Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Deputy Majority Chief Whip Habib Iddrisu, and Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, among others.

The delegation is currently holding a closed-door meeting with Dr. Bawumia to discuss campaign strategy and party unity ahead of the primaries.

This show of parliamentary support marks a significant boost for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, as the NPP prepares for what is expected to be a highly competitive internal contest.
