Ghanaian football powerhouse Asante Kotoko have reinforced their attack with the acquisition of seasoned forward Johnson Oppong Owusu.
This move signals their ambition to compete strongly in both domestic and continental competitions in the upcoming 2025/26 season.
The 27-year-old striker returns to Ghana following a short stint in Tajikistan, bringing with him a blend of international experience and attacking versatility.
Owusu is no stranger to Ghanaian football, having previously starred for Dreams FC and Inter Allies.
He rose to prominence during Dreams FC’s remarkable journey to the semi-finals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup, where his performances caught the attention of top clubs.
According to Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio, Owusu has signed a three-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors after successfully completing his medicals at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
While an official statement from the club is still pending, the deal is believed to have the full backing of head coach Karim Zito, who has reportedly been impressed by Owusu’s technical abilities and broad international exposure.
Owusu’s career has taken him across Europe, where he featured for several clubs including FC Trinity Zlín in the Czech Republic, FK Kukësi in Albania, and Portuguese sides Marítimo, Camacha, and SC Braga’s U19 team.
His signing comes at a crucial time as Asante Kotoko look to rebuild and mount a serious challenge in the Ghana Premier League while also making a mark in the CAF inter-club competitions.
With the new season on the horizon, Owusu’s arrival is viewed as a strategic step toward restoring the club’s dominance both locally and on the African stage.
