The government has set aside GH₵20 million for the Film Development Fund, aimed at boosting Ghana’s film industry, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, James Gardiner, has announced.
Speaking at the Filmmakers Summit during the Ashanti Festival ’26 in Kumasi on March 17, Gardiner said the fund is expected to become operational in the second quarter of 2026.
He described the initiative as a “strategic tool” designed to stimulate growth across the entire film value chain, with particular focus on production.
In addition, the fund will support capacity building, enhance distribution, and improve access to local and international markets.
“The Ministry of Finance has allocated 20 million to the Film Development Fund, which is scheduled to be operationalised in the second quarter of 2026,” Gardiner stated, adding that the fund represents a major step toward unlocking the economic and creative potential of Ghana’s film industry.
