Background: Born in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region, Akua Donkor is a cocoa farmer by profession. Without any formal education, she entered politics with a vision to lead Ghana as its president. She founded the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and has made several attempts to contest in the presidential elections.
In 2012 she applied to run as an independent candidate but was disqualified by the Electoral Commission for not meeting the election requirements.
Later in 2016, her party, GFP, was again disqualified from contesting the elections due to errors on her nomination form. She encouraged her supporters to remain hopeful for future opportunities.
However in 2020, Akua Donkor successfully qualified to contest as a presidential candidate, finishing fifth out of twelve candidates, marking a milestone as one of the three women cleared to contest.
