President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has vowed to fully support a smooth and seamless transfer of power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 2024 National Transition Team on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra, President Akufo-Addo emphasized his dedication to ensuring a successful transition.
The ceremony, a pivotal moment in Ghana’s democratic process, brought together representatives of both the outgoing and incoming administrations to officially begin the power transfer.
President Akufo-Addo assured the President-elect and his team of the outgoing administration’s full cooperation, highlighting the importance of equipping the incoming government with the resources and support necessary to start its term effectively.
“A successful transition is more than a procedural formality—it is a responsibility we owe to the people of Ghana,” Akufo-Addo stated. “I assure President-elect Mahama of my unwavering support and that of my government to ensure his administration begins under the best possible conditions.”
He also stressed the importance of continuity in governance and called for collaboration between the two teams to guarantee a smooth handover.
In response, President-elect John Dramani Mahama expressed his appreciation to President Akufo-Addo and the outgoing administration for their commitment to a peaceful transition. He highlighted the critical role the process plays in fostering national unity and stability, while also acknowledging the challenges facing the country, including economic and security concerns.
“President Akufo-Addo has provided me with a brief on the internal and external security situation, as well as key economic issues,” Mahama noted. “The transition teams will delve deeper into these matters, and we will work together in Ghana’s best interest to ensure a seamless transfer of power.”
