The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Education, has announced an increase in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance for both professional and non-professional teachers across pre-tertiary schools nationwide.
According to a press release from the Ministry, professional teachers will now receive GHC 2,400 annually, a significant increase from the previous GHC 1,200.
Non-professional teachers have also seen their CPD allowance rise from GHC 800 to GHC 1,200.
These adjustments, already in effect, aim to bolster the support system for teachers in their professional growth and development.
The government’s decision to increase the CPD allowance underscores its commitment to improving the quality of education through teacher development.
By ensuring that educators are equipped with modern skills and up-to-date teaching methodologies, the initiative seeks to foster more effective teaching practices in schools.
The CPD allowance was originally introduced in 2020 as part of efforts to enhance the skills and competencies of both professional and non-professional teachers.
It provides financial support for teachers to participate in training programs, upgrade their skills, and adopt new educational techniques aimed at improving the overall learning environment in Ghana’s pre-tertiary education sector.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, noted that these enhancements reflect the government’s dedication to ensuring teachers are well-prepared to deliver quality education to students across the country.
