The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa, has taken swift action to evacuate Emmanuel Asamoah, a Ghanaian national seen in a viral video being harassed by a group of individuals in South Africa.

The act seen in the viral video has been widely described as a xenophobic attack. The video, which circulated widely on social media, captured tense scenes in which Emmanuel Asamoah and several other foreign nationals were confronted and intimidated by individuals accusing them of taking jobs meant for local citizens.

The footage sparked outrage among many Ghanaians both at home and abroad, reigniting concerns about the safety and welfare of Ghanaian nationals living in other African countries.

The incident reflects a broader pattern of xenophobic tensions that have periodically surfaced in parts of South Africa, often driven by economic pressures and high unemployment.

In response, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablkwa, shared that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs moved swiftly to ensure the safety of Emmanuel Asamoah.
