Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has announced Ghana’s readiness to collaborate with other African countries to pilot a continental digital trade corridor aimed at boosting cross-border commerce and advancing digital integration across Africa.

She made the announcement at the 3i Africa Summit 2026 on Wednesday, which was held under the theme “Innovation, Investment and Impact in Africa’s Fintech Ecosystem.”

According to her, Africa’s growing youthful population and rapid adoption of digital technologies position the continent strongly to shape the next phase of global digital transformation. She added that emerging markets will play a critical role in driving future innovation, particularly in sectors such as trade, agriculture, health, education, and public service delivery.

The Vice President stressed that Ghana is committed to ensuring that regional integration efforts go beyond policy discussions and are translated into practical implementation across partner countries.

“To that end, allow me to announce a concrete step. Ghana will work with Rwanda, Zambia and other partners to pilot a continental digital trade corridor,” she stated.

The proposed initiative is expected to be tested and measured across participating countries, with key focus areas including mobile money interoperability, mutual recognition of digital identities for cross-border Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, and the development of harmonised electronic invoicing systems.

She explained that the project forms part of broader efforts to deepen digital economic integration within Africa and improve efficiency in intra-continental trade.

The digital trade corridor initiative is expected to support smoother financial transactions, reduce barriers to trade, and strengthen economic connectivity among African countries under ongoing regional integration frameworks.
