The Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO, has begun searches at the office and residence of the Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

The searches are being carried out under a warrant obtained from the High Court as part of investigations into alleged unauthorised financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.

The development follows the MP’s appearance at the EOCO office earlier today, where he was questioned by investigators for more than an hour.

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah reported himself to the agency after the High Court issued a warrant for his arrest.

He was accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Kyea, as well as some of his parliamentary colleagues, including Kofi Amankwah Manu, Subin MP Obiri Yeboah and former Deputy Attorney-General Joseph Kpemka.

After the questioning, EOCO officials proceeded to the MP’s office and residence to carry out the searches authorised by the court.

The arrest warrant was issued on Wednesday, September 30, following an application by EOCO.

The agency told the High Court that it had taken reasonable steps to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance for questioning but had been unsuccessful.

EOCO had earlier attempted to arrest Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court, an incident which led to a confrontation involving the MP and some of his parliamentary colleagues.

The latest searches form part of EOCO’s ongoing investigation into the alleged financial transactions at SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
