ELECTION 2024: 13 Candidates cleared for 2024 Presidential elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially announced the list of 13 approved candidates for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections, following a rigorous vetting process.

In a statement released on Friday, September 19, the EC confirmed that the candidates had met the required criteria, paving the way for a heated campaign season.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alan Kojo Kyeremanten of the Movement for Change, Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force are among the notable contenders who have successfully passed the vetting process. ,

Several first-time candidates from smaller parties and independent platforms have also emerged, aiming to challenge the political establishment with fresh perspectives.


The EC emphasized that the selection process was conducted with utmost fairness and transparency, scrutinizing detailed documentation, including financial records, citizenship status, and nomination forms.

“We urge all candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns, adhering to electoral guidelines, ensuring an orderly and democratic election period,” the EC stated.

Meanwhile, Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP) have been disqualified from contesting in the December 7, 2024, presidential elections.

Other presidential candidates disqualified by the EC include Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr Samuel Sampong Ankrah, Nii Amu Darko, Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah and Kofi Asamoah Siaw (Progressive People’s Party).
