Medeama SC clinched a thrilling 2-1 win over Asante Kotoko in the opening match at the new TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Friday evening, thanks to a last-minute goal by Prosper Boakye.
The eagerly awaited fixture, attended by Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, showcased high-quality football and kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Kotoko began strongly, nearly scoring in the third minute with a cross from Albert Amoah that was intercepted by Michael Enu.
Medeama thought they had taken the lead in the 16th minute when Diawisie Taylor’s rebound found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Four minutes later, Nana Kofi Babil capitalized on Enu’s header to put Medeama ahead.
The Mauves and Yellows had a chance to extend their lead in the 31st minute with a penalty, but Taylor’s attempt was saved.
In the second half, Kotoko equalized in the 64th minute with a goal from substitute Bernard Somuah, who finished a well-orchestrated team move.
Medeama struggled to regain control, but in the 89th minute, substitute Prosper Boakye scored from a free kick delivery to secure the victory.
The win thrilled the home crowd and marked a successful debut for the TnA Stadium.
