The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the commencement of pre-registration for motor vehicles for the 2025 registration year.
This process is set to begin on January 2, 2025, across all DVLA operational offices nationwide.
In a press release dated December 20, 2024, the DVLA emphasized the integration of its Online Vehicle Registration System, which will provide vehicle owners with a registration smart card and a Certificate of Title containing all relevant vehicle details. The new suffix “-25” will be introduced to signify the year of registration, as required by the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180).
The registration process will follow two stages:
•Stage 1: Vehicle owners are required to present their vehicles, customs documents, and other relevant papers at authorized Vehicle Testing Stations or DVLA offices for clearance, inspection, and validation. DVLA officials will issue invoices for the requested services.
•Stage 2: Starting January 2, 2025, owners must complete payment and biometric capture at DVLA centers to receive their registration documents, including the Certificate of Title, registration smart card, and other essential items like license plates.
The DVLA has urged vehicle owners to ensure the authenticity of their documents, warning that only original copies of customs papers will be accepted. Additionally, individuals transacting business on behalf of vehicle owners must present a Power of Attorney along with their Ghana Card.
Since introducing the Electronic Vehicle Registration system in 2023, the DVLA has successfully registered over 175,000 vehicles. Management has also cautioned the public against engaging unauthorized middlemen, commonly known as “Goro Boys,” to avoid fraud.
