Deputy Minister-Designate for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has pledged to prioritize road safety and support measures aimed at reducing the alarming rate of road accidents across the country.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee today, Ms. Affo-Toffey laid out her vision to work closely with the Minister for Transport to implement practical and technology-driven interventions.
“If given the nod, I will assist my Minister to put in place measures that will curb accidents,” she stated. “For instance, by educating the general public, establishing an effective emergency response system, installing clear signage, and deploying speed-detecting cameras.”
She emphasized that a combination of public education, stronger enforcement of traffic laws, and the use of technology would be central to her approach. She also called for a review and potential strengthening of existing regulations to better ensure safety on the roads.
Ms. Affo-Toffey, who is the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, is among four deputy ministerial nominees currently undergoing vetting. If approved, she will support the Transport Ministry in its efforts to improve road infrastructure and enhance commuter safety nationwide.
