As the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League edges toward its conclusion without a title sponsor, the resilience of its clubs has come into sharp focus.

Leading that recognition is Akwasi Adu, Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani Gold Stars, who has praised club financiers and managers for their extraordinary commitment in the face of mounting financial strain.

Speaking in a recent interview, Adu described the individuals keeping Ghanaian top-flight football afloat as “magicians,” citing the significant logistical and financial challenges teams endure week in and week out.

“I should say this on behalf of all 18 Premier League clubs; the managers and financiers are magicians,” he said. “Travelling across all regional boundaries without a sponsor is very difficult. We are all hoping to resolve this situation as quickly as possible.”

The Ghana Premier League has yet to secure a headline sponsor for the current season, forcing clubs to depend on limited internal resources, personal investment, and community support. Despite this, the competition on the pitch has remained fierce.

Bibiani Gold Stars have emerged as one of the standout clubs this season. With 54 points, they are in strong contention for the title and are looking to maintain momentum in their next fixture against Asante Kotoko at DUN’s Park.

Adu confirmed the club is actively seeking sponsorship ahead of next season to build on their current form.

“The competitive nature of this year’s title race, despite the challenges, should attract potential sponsors. We hope this will be a turning point for local football,” he said.

As clubs continue to deliver competitive football in the absence of sponsorship support, the call is growing louder for stakeholders and corporate Ghana to step in.

With clubs like Bibiani Gold Stars setting the pace, the league’s potential remains high, what’s missing is the financial backing to match its ambition.
