The community of Ballagonnor in the Ga South Municipality has received a significant boost in energy access with the installation of solar-powered charging stations, donated by Betway Ghana under its Power Up initiative.
The intervention brings long-awaited relief to residents who, for years, have lived without electricity despite being situated within the Greater Accra Region.
The community has never been connected to the national grid, a challenge that has hampered development and limited access to basic services.
At a commissioning ceremony held on Wednesday, July 23, Betway Ghana’s Country Manager for Marketing, Kwabena Oppong, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to sustainable and impactful social interventions.
“Providing practical solutions that directly benefit people is at the heart of what we do. We saw the need here and responded by offering smart, sustainable power in line with national energy access goals,” he said.
The newly commissioned solar-powered stations are expected to serve as a reliable source of energy for charging mobile phones, powering small appliances, and improving daily living conditions in the community.
Also present at the event was the Member of Parliament for Domeabra-Obom, Isaac Awuku Yibor, who praised the initiative and pointed to the broader challenge of energy access across the constituency.
“In this constituency alone, 147 communities are still without electricity. This project gives me hope, and I sincerely thank Betway for the support,” he said.
The Power Up initiative by Betway Ghana aims to improve access to clean, renewable energy in underserved communities across the country.
