As results begin to trickle in from various polling stations across the country, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has formally conceded defeat and extended his congratulations to John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Bawumia, who led the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the elections, acknowledged the provisional results during a state address on Sunday, December 8. He emphasized his commitment to a peaceful transition of power and pledged his support for the incoming administration.
“I have spoken to President-elect John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him on his victory. The people of Ghana have spoken, and we must respect their decision,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
The concession follows a fiercely contested election and signals the conclusion of a pivotal moment in Ghana’s political landscape.
Dr. Bawumia affirmed his dedication to ensuring that the transition is smooth and that Ghana’s peace and development remain uninterrupted under the new leadership.
This gesture sets the stage for John Dramani Mahama’s return to the presidency, as he prepares to assume office and lead the nation in the years ahead.
