West Ham United striker Michail Antonio is in a stable condition and “conscious and communicating” after being involved in a car crash on Saturday afternoon. The 34-year-old Jamaica international was taken to a central London hospital, where he is currently under close supervision.

In a statement, West Ham said: “We are pleased to report that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition and is conscious and communicating with medical staff. Our thoughts and prayers are with Michail, his family and friends at this difficult time.”

The accident occurred in Epping, Essex, at around 1:02 pm on Saturday. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and released Antonio from his car. He was then taken to the hospital by the Ambulance Service.

Essex Police are investigating the incident and have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage. The force said: “We are investigating a serious collision involving a Ferrari. We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage.”

The football community has rallied around Antonio, with several clubs and players sending their best wishes to the striker. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City were among the Premier League clubs to offer their support, while the Premier League itself said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Michail Antonio, his family, friends and all at West Ham United.”

Antonio has been a key player for West Ham since joining the club in 2015. He has scored 68 goals in 268 league appearances and is the club’s record Premier League goalscorer.

West Ham’s next match is against Wolves on Monday, and the club will be hoping that Antonio makes a speedy recovery.
