Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirants and their supporters to place party cohesion above individual ambition as the contest for leadership unfolds.

Addressing a peace pact signing ceremony in Accra on Thursday, January 22, the former president cautioned that internal divisions could undermine the party’s broader objectives. He stressed that the NPP’s collective strength must always take precedence over personal or factional interests.

According to Mr Akufo-Addo, leadership contests should serve to advance the party’s shared vision rather than weaken its foundations. He noted that unity is a critical factor in electoral success and should be treated as a strategic priority, not merely a campaign catchphrase.

He further challenged the aspirants to demonstrate their commitment to peace beyond the signing of the pact, urging them to uphold its principles throughout the campaign period.

The peace pact ceremony brought together party executives and presidential hopefuls, who collectively pledged to conduct a peaceful and respectful contest as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
