Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has assured that the 100 newly acquired government buses will soon be deployed to strengthen public transport services and ease congestion, particularly during peak hours.

He explained that the buses have not yet been put into operation because they are undergoing key administrative and technical procedures, including registration, inspection, servicing, and driver training.

Speaking to journalists after appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, May 20, the Minister said all necessary processes are being finalized to ensure the buses are safely integrated into the transport system.

According to him, although the vehicles have arrived in the country, they must first be fully registered and licensed, while drivers also undergo proper training before deployment.

“If you have a number of buses, they have to be registered, inspected, and properly serviced. Drivers also have to be trained and deployed so the buses can serve the people,” he said.

He further indicated that the rollout is at its final stage, with driver training currently ongoing and expected to be completed within days.

“We are almost at the end of rolling those buses out. The drivers are under training and should pass out either this week or early next week. Once everything is completed, the buses will be released into the system,” he added.
