Dear MX24,
When I met her, she was just someone I looked up to — a wealthy woman who took interest in my potential. She said I reminded her of the son she never had.
She’d send me mobile money randomly, buy me clothes, even introduce me to people I never imagined I’d meet. I was her “boy,” and it felt good to be seen.
Then one weekend, she invited me on a trip. Five-star hotel, all expenses paid. But somewhere between the expensive dinners and soft sheets, the boundaries shifted. She made a move. I was shocked — but I didn’t resist.
She told me not to overthink it. “You’re a man,” she said, “and I like to take care of men who take care of me.”
I won’t lie — the benefits were tempting. Weekend getaways. New phone. Cash on demand. I let it continue.
But somewhere along the line, it stopped being about comfort and started feeling like control.
She’d call me at odd hours and expect me to show up. If I didn’t answer, she’d threaten to “cut me off.” She started getting jealous when I hung out with friends, especially girls. I wasn’t just her boy anymore — I was her property.
Still, I stayed. Even when the money slowed down. Even when I stopped recognizing myself. I kept telling myself, “You’re a man. You can handle this.”
But the day she suggested bringing another guy into our situation — “just to spice things up” — I realized I was losing more than time and freedom. I was losing myself.
I walked away. I haven’t heard from her since.
Now I’m working a regular job, earning just enough. No fancy gifts. No flashy lifestyle. But I sleep better. I wake up feeling free.
Still… sometimes I wonder:
Was I wrong for staying as long as I did?
Did I use her — or did she use me?
Recently I met her at the Mall. This encounter was awkward. Well, after speaking for some seconds, I heard a familiar voice call me from the back.
Guess what, it was one of my friends from way back school days. The bigger surprise was the fact that, he was with this “woman” now!!!
What do I even do? Should I tell my friend about my own ordeal? Should I be concerned?
