Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced plans to contest the NPP parliamentary primary in the constituency, signalling her intention to return to Parliament.

In a statement issued on October 22, 2026, Safo said she would present herself for consideration once the party announces the schedule and rules governing the primaries.

She explained that the decision came after extensive consultations with party leadership and executives, as well as careful reflection on her political future.

Although she had earlier expressed interest in pursuing opportunities outside the constituency, Safo said she had reconsidered, emphasising her continued commitment to the people of Dome-Kwabenya.

She also cited her electoral performance during her time as MP, polling 63,373 votes in 2012, 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in the 2020 general election. She credited the results to the collective efforts of party members, supporters and constituents.

Safo served as the constituency’s MP from January 2013 to January 2025. Her bid to retain the NPP ticket ahead of the 2024 elections was unsuccessful, after Mike Oquaye Jnr defeated her with 1,194 votes, compared with her 328.

Oquaye Jnr later lost the parliamentary seat to the NDC’s Faustina Elikplim Akurugu in the December 2024 general election, giving the NDC its first victory in the constituency.

Safo says her renewed interest in the seat is driven by her desire to support local development, expand opportunities for young people and address the concerns of residents.

She has called on party members and other stakeholders to participate in discussions about the constituency’s future, maintaining that her ties to Dome-Kwabenya remain strong.
